ACCEPTING A CALL
Call the job line each night after 5:30 pm. If you are interested in a call; call back the next morning between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. You will only receive a call from this office if you are the person receiving the call.

Local Union 890's Referral Procedures
1. Hours for registration shall be 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Thursdays 1:00 P.M. TO 5:30 P.M. or any other time between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. IF someone is in the office and available.
2. A paid dues receipt and termination slip must be presented to the administrator. In addition to this, book II, III & IV applicants will be required to submit a letter of introduction.
3. The Administrator shall evaluate the information and place the applicant in the highest group for which he qualifies in accordance with Article IX of the Labor Agreement.
4. Applicants must re-register monthly either in person or by post cards supplied from this office. The cards must be received on or before the anniversary date of the original signing. Applicants must re-register at the Hiring Hall in person, by the anniversary date of the THIRD month from your original sign. If the anniversary date falls on a date that is beyond the end of a subsequent month, then your resign date is extended beyond the subsequent month as if it had more days in it. (i.e. originally sign January 31st, your resign is March 3rd). If the applicant is on a short call, referred out of Local Union 890, when his/her re-registration date occurs he/she may resign on the 1st day after the short call has completed. Resigning in person can be no more than 7 days prior to the anniversary date. Similarly, cards should be sent to arrive at the hall no more than 7 days prior to the anniversary date.
5. Calls for manpower will be tape-recorded daily and placed on an automatic recording machine, there may be updates throughout the day. A brief description of the nature of the call will be provided stating the names of the employers, the start dates, location of jobs, drug test if required, and the anticipated duration if available).
6. If there are no requests for manpower that day, a message stating there are no requests today will be on the recorder.
7. Registered referral applicants inquiring about job information may call at any time except 8:00 A.M. thru 10:00 A.M. (Remember the recording can be updated throughout the day - it’s best to call after 5:30 P.M.)
8. Any registered applicant currently NOT working within THIS jurisdiction wishing to be referred to an employer listed on the recorder may respond by phone 608/752-3290 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. NOT IN PERSON! The call must consist of his/her name, original sign in date, job preference and phone number. If you don’t want to take any job as recorded, Don’t Call. NO OTHER QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME!!! If you have questions call the hall number 608/752-0321, we need to keep the job line free for the applicants of jobs!!!!!
9. All respondents will be ranked according to their referral position. The respondents with the highest referral position, who has indicted a job preference, will be notified by 11:00 A.M. of the issuance of a referral slip and job reporting information.
10. Respondents must be available for verification from 10:00 A.M. To 11:00 A.M. Those not available will be removed form the out of work list. Respondents who have not been notified by 11:00 A.M. can assume that they have not gotten the call.
11. Every effort will be made to call referral applicants in the order of their referral position to fill calls of an emergency nature.
12. In the event that there is no response to the recorded manpower requests, the administrator will call the applicants in order of registration. You will not be allowed to turn down a job, refusal to work removes you from the book. You’ll then be required to resign in person. Calls made to your residence where we receive no answer or leave a message, will be counted as a refusal. Emergency calls will not count against your position.
13. The administrator shall remove from the list, the name of any applicant who accepts a referral, but fails to report for work.
14. Referral will be in person from the referral office. If an applicant is rejected, he shall immediately notify the Administrator and shall be returned to the list and maintain his position.
15. Applicants for employment who are employed performing any electrical work for more than two calendar weeks, in our jurisdiction, shall have his name removed from the “Out of Work” list.
16. Short Calls shall be considered, as any referral 14 days or less, without regard to the hours worked. A call that is put on the recorder as a short call can not be extended beyond the 14 day duration.
17. Short Calls will be distributed in accordance with applicants position on the short call list.
18. Anyone who accepts a call shall be responsible to fulfill the term agreed upon before you will resume your place on the list. (You can’t take a short call and drag up to take a better call that was on the recorder. You can’t quit or cause yourself to be terminated in order to maintain your position on the book).
19. If you take a long call and it lasts less than two weeks (due to no fault of your own), it will be considered a short call and your position on the long call book will not be effected.
20. If you take a short call your name will be positioned on the short call list according to the start date of the short call. Any short call that lasts less than 5 days will not effect your position on the short call list.
21. Upon the completion of the short call you will be required to immediately inform the local of the completion.
22. The Labor Agreement, Section 9.16 thru 9.20 provides for an appeals committee to be established. Any applicant having a complaint with the Administration of the referral system must submit such complaint in writing to the appeals committee. Complaint can be submitted at the Local Union office between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., within 10 days of the occurrence.
